1. Presentation & guidelines for proposing a Special Issue

    Section title: Presentation of special issues

    The special issues of the African Cities Journal aim to explore in depth major urban issues on the African continent (governance, environment, economy, mobility, spatial justice, digital transitions, etc.), bringing together interdisciplinary contributions focused on African contexts.

    Each special issue is coordinated by one or more Guest Editors and is subject to a specific call for contributions, evaluated according to the journal's usual standards (double-blind peer review).

    Subsection title: Proposing a Special Issue

    Proposals for special issues may be submitted to the editorial board at any time. A proposal must include:

    • Tentative title of the Special Issue
    • Abstract (0.5–1 page) presenting:
      the central theme and main research questions;
      the scientific originality and added value compared to existing work;
      the specific relevance to African cities and urban policies.
    • Proposed thematic areas (3–6 areas) and types of contributions expected:
      research articles, case studies, field notes, public policy analyses, methodological essays, etc.
    • Guest Editors:

                     names, affiliations, short bios, thematic and regional expertise;

                      justification of the team's complementarity (gender, regions, disciplines).

    • Tentative schedule, including:

    planned launch date of the call for contributions;

    deadline for abstracts;

    deadline for full manuscripts;

    evaluation and review schedule;

    desired publication period for the special issue.

    • Indicative list of targeted authors/teams (optional): research networks, collaborative projects, associated workshops or conferences.

    Proposals should be sent to the following address: info@africancitiesjournal.org

    After review by the Editorial Board, there are three possible outcomes:

    • Acceptance of the proposal as is;
    • Acceptance subject to modifications (adjustment of scope, schedule, or editorial team);
    • Rejection with justification
